I like foundations! A house has a foundation that everything is secured to.  A family has a foundation of ancestors to learn about.  Our society has a foundation of families; and our country has a foundation of God whom we trust. If we have a solid foundation the storms and winds of life are least likely to blow us away.

What are we doing? Are we strengthening our foundations? We don’t want to be the wind and the storm. We want to be a part of maintaining a strong foundation that gives us grounding and happiness!

Visiting Washington DC is one of those foundational experiences that helps with educating America!

We’ve had the opportunity to travel with our children to Washington DC a couple of times. Some of the fun activities we did are:

*Visit Arlington Cemetery and watch the changing of the guard.

*Wander around the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials and contemplate their words and actions.

*View and read the original U.S. Constitution in the National Archives Building.

*Stroll through different war memorials and feel the solemness of their sacrifices.

*Admired the White House from afar and thought about its protection.

*Meandered through the Natural History Museum and enjoyed the displays about human history through time.

*Gazed with wonder at advancements in flight at the  Smithsonian Airspace Museum.

*One of our favorite places to see was Mount Vernon, about 15 miles away in Virginia, where George Washington lived. His estate showcases his high ideals, care, and ingenuity. What a miracle to have it so well preserved!

Washington DC is an unforgettable place to visit! It left us with overwhelming feelings of gratitude! It educates Americans at every turn of the foundation America is built on. It helped us strengthen our own!
