A College Degree

Updated: 2 days ago

One of the greatest blessings in my life was the opportunity I had to get a college degree. Not only did I learn secular knowledge to help me have a career, but I learned the joy of doing hard things!
I learned to make difficult choices like where to attend school, how to pay for it, where to live, who to live with, and what classes to take.
I learned to manage my time so I could get to my classes, do the studies, get them in on time, and earn good grades.
I had to navigate new relationships with friends, roommates, teachers, and administrators. And I had to learn!
My favorite teacher was the one that gave me a very poor grade and wrote, “Heidi, you can do better!” at the top of my paper. I hadn’t researched the topic enough because it was hard for me to understand. I had to figure out where the information was and then decipher what it was saying. And it was in English!
I put more time and effort in my studies after that! It was actually more satisfying!
A college degree teaches excellence. A person learns how to acquire knowledge, how to examine ideas, how to see quality, and to reach for higher ideals.
There are seasons in one’s life to work on a college degree and many ways to achieve one. You are never too old and never too far behind!
